In a tense last day on the Soudal Open in Belgium, it was Sweden’s Simon Forsstrom who managed to carry his nerve, with the 34-year-old birdieing two of his last three holes to select up the primary DP World Tour title of his profession.
Forsstrom, who has been to DP World Tour Q College 9 instances all through his profession, started the day within the outright lead, with house favorite, Thomas Detry, in scorching pursuit as he chased down a possible first DP World Tour trophy.
Opening with three pars, a close to 40-foot birdie putt on the fourth doubled Forsstrom’s result in two pictures. Though he then topped his method on the par 5 subsequent gap, he managed to get up-and-down to remain clear and, when he caught his second shot in shut on the eighth for one more birdie, his lead was three.
It appeared then that the title was heading his method, particularly with a par on the ninth rounding out a snug entrance 9 of 34. Nevertheless, profitable on the DP World Tour isn’t straightforward and that proved the case on the tenth, with Forsstrom discovering hassle off the tee and ultimately ending with a double bogey.
The injury wasn’t over although, particularly when a bogey on the twelfth undid all the laborious work from the entrance 9. There was much more unhealthy information for the Swede, as his unhealthy run meant he dropped again into a 3 method tie of the lead, alongside Thorbjorn Olesen and Jens Dantorp.

Dantorp, who’s but to win on the DP World Tour circuit, then took the outright lead himself for the primary time, as a 48-foot putt dropped to get him to 15-under. His fellow countryman, Forsstrom, wasn’t achieved although and, when he birdied the 14th and sixteenth, the lead was again in his courtroom.
As Dantorp parred the final gap to overhaul Oleson and set the clubhouse goal at 16-under-par, it was left to Forsstrom to par the final to maintain his one shot lead intact. Fortunately, after discovering the tough off the tee on the 18th, he produced one of many pictures of the day, along with his wedge shot nestling some 10-feet from the flag.
Though he missed the birdie attempt, he was capable of duly tap-in for a par and a last spherical 69. After the putt, Forsstrom was clearly overwhelmed, with the 34-year-old revealing that there would not be a lot celebrating tonight, because of the reality he’s flying out to make a US Open Qualifier at Walton Heath early subsequent week!
