The Cut Grey is considered one of the best sellers from Cut Golf, so I was excited to see what it’s all about.
This is a 3-piece golf ball designed for players with moderate swing speeds who are looking for a ball with great feel. Without giving too much away, I’ll give Cut some credit – this ball definitely offers solid value.

ToggleFeatures
The Cut Grey is considered a value golf ball. You can tell their mission is to make golf more affordable for the average golfer, and the features and technology used in this ball reflect that well.
3-Piece Design
With a 3-piece ball, you can expect a mix of performance from tee to green. The Cut Grey is designed to provide long distance off the tee while still offering some control and feel around the greens.
Urethane Cover
The Cut Grey features a urethane cover — a more premium material compared to surlyn. Urethane is softer and more responsive around the greens, and all tour-quality golf balls used by professionals have urethane covers.
80 Compression Rating
At 80 compression, it’s slightly softer than the 4-piece Cut Blue. This compression allows mid-swing speed golfers to maximize distance. While it’s not the longest ball in the Cut lineup, it’s built to optimize distance for average swing speeds.
314 Dimple Pattern
The 314 dimple pattern helps maintain control off the tee, improve distance consistency, and promote a more penetrating ball flight. It cuts through the wind well and helps keep shots straighter.
Performance
I tested the Cut Grey over four rounds of golf. Here’s my experience with its feel, sound, spin, and distance.
Price — A+
All Cut golf balls get an A+ from me when it comes to value. If you don’t want to overspend but still want a ball that holds up well for multiple rounds, the Cut Grey is a great choice.
Pricing here isn’t just low — it’s genuinely great value. Many 3-piece golf balls cost significantly more and may not perform as well.
Feel and Sound — B
The Cut Grey feels slightly soft, which is good for moderate swing speed players. Off the driver, it feels smooth rather than hard, and you’ll notice the same off your irons.
Around the greens, the feel is excellent. On the putting green, it struck a nice balance — firm enough to stay on line but soft enough to provide control.
Sound was pleasant, reminding me of the Titleist TruFeel.
Spin — B+
I don’t expect extreme spin from a 3-piece value ball, and neither should you. That said, I had no trouble getting extra roll off the tee, and approach shots stopped reliably on the green.
It’s not as responsive as a Callaway Chrome Soft or Titleist Pro V1, but it’s also about half the price.
Greenside spin was on the lower side, so plan to land your shot a few feet short and let it roll.
Distance — A
From the tee, the Cut Grey is long — especially for mid-swing speed players. Higher swing speeds may benefit more from the Cut Blue.
Approach shots flew consistently, and I even gained a few extra yards compared to some premium balls.
What I Like About the Cut Grey Golf Balls
-
Distance from the Tee – Great for average swing speeds looking for extra yards.
-
Soft Cover – The urethane cover adds feel and responsiveness rarely seen at this price.
-
Fair Pricing – Excellent value without over-complicated marketing.
What I Dislike About the Cut Grey Golf Balls
-
Greenside Spin – Lower than premium models; expect more rollout.
-
Not as Fast off the Face – At times, it didn’t feel as “hot” as higher compression balls, especially for faster swings.
Overall Rating & Final Thoughts
I wouldn’t switch from my premium ball full-time, but I enjoyed playing with the Cut Grey and adjusted quickly to its performance. Durability is solid, too — mine still looked good after multiple rounds.
Best For: Average swing speed golfers on a budget who value distance over high spin.
Overall Score: 8/10
